Month-long agitation by BKS against SEZ and remunative price for the agriculture produce
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh announced to launch a nationwide month-long protest against Special Economic Zones (SEZs) from September 5 to October 5. BKS national organising secretary Shri Dinesh Kulkarni told mediapersons in Bhubaneshwar on July 28 that the Kisan Sangh would hold protest meetings at all district headquarters across the country during this period and would submit memorandums against SEZs to the concerned authorities.
Report On Farmers’ Suicide (2008)
Bharatiya kisan sangh conducted survey on farmers’ suicide in Vidharbha region of Maharashtra with center for policy study. The survey was conducted in 9 districts of Vidharbha (Maharashtra). We visited 105 farmers’ houses, who committed suicides, of 92 villages from 43 talukas. In this exhaustive survey we find the main reason behind these suicides is that farmers’ are not getting the remunerative price for their produce.
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh seeks $20-b fund for agri infrastructure Our Bureau
THE Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) has urged the Union Government to set up a $20-billion fund to improve agriculture infrastructure in the country.
Addressing newspersons here on Wednesday, Mr Babasaheb Takwale, BKS General Secretary, said that the investment in agriculture is decreasing every year. Of the more than 100 major irrigation projects envisaged during the tenure of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, only 28 have been completed. The rest could not be completed due to lack of finance.
