BHARATIYA KISAN SANGH
Report On Farmers’ Suicide (2008)
Bharatiya kisan sangh conducted survey on farmers’ suicide in
Vidharbha region of Maharashtra with center for policy study. The
survey was conducted in 9 districts of Vidharbha (Maharashtra). We visited
105 farmers’ houses, who committed suicides, of 92 villages from 43 talukas.
In this exhaustive survey we find the main reason behind these
suicides is that farmers’ are not getting the remunerative price for their
produce. The cost of cultivation is increased many times as Compare to
price fixed by government. To stop this unfortunate, man made calamity it is
necessary that farmers’ should get remunerative price i.e. cost of
production with 20% profit Besides this main reason another
factors like change in agriculture practice, social, political are also
responsible for this unfortunate events.
