Imphal, March 05 2016 : Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur today said that the statement of MLA Oinam Assembly Constituency I Ibohalbi in the just concluded State Assembly Session that the State Horticul- ture Department had collected Rs 50,000 from farmers for implementing a scheme under the Ministry of Agro-Textiles through Sasmira (an implementing agency) was false.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, president of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur Pranta Nameirakpam Indubushan stated that the comment of MLA I Ibohanbi was false as the said scheme has no relation with the State Horti- culture Department.
He added that the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana is to provide irrigation facilities to farmers and for Manipur, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts have been se- lected.
But the implementation of the scheme should not be given out on contract system, he said.
The State has a long history of failure in irrigation facilities.
Various works taken up under the 'Make in Manipur' initiative by the Horticulture and Agriculture Department will be futile if no water reaches the field, he added.
Large sum of money has been sanctioned to Command Area Development Agency and Minor Irrigation Department by the State Government through numerous schemes.
Faulty imple- mentation has led to failure of many programme and schemes, he alleged.
To curb such incidents in future, he added and said that the concerned department and agency should work for the benefit of farmers in the larger interest of the State.
