AMALAPURAM, (ANDHRA PRADESH) November 11, 2012 : Demanding an increase in the ex gratia being paid for the crop loss during the recent cyclone, farmers, under the aegis of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), took out a rally here on Saturday.
Hundreds of farmers from various parts of the district commenced the rally at the Clock Tower centre and proceeded towards the Revenue Divisional Officer’s office.
Addressing the farmers, BKS secretary Mutyala Jameelu demanded that the amount be increased from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 10,000 per acre in the wake of huge increase in the input costs.
He said there were no hopes on the present kharif, as the entire paddy fields got damaged severely. The farmers submitted a memorandum to Animal Husbandry Minister Pinipe Viswaroop, who assured them that he would bring the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister.
