RAJAHMUNDRY: Konaseema Rythu Parirakshana Samithi (KRPS) has decided to intensify its agitation against the ‘adamant attitude’ of the state government in conceding its demands.
The Samithi which is spearheading the crop holiday movement, on Sunday gave a call for Konaseema bandh on September 16.
A massive dharna will be organised by farmers at the collectorate in Kakinada on September 19.
It has been organising a relay hunger strike in Amalapuram demanding compensation for farmers who forewent this kharif crop.
About 50 farmers from each mandal are taking part in the hunger strike everyday.
If the government fails to respond positively to their demands, the Samithi has decided to block the national highway passing through East Godavari district.
Meanwhile, the state government is planning to take up delta modernisation works during rabi after declaring a crop holiday.
Due to crop holiday in kharif, 1.3 lakh acres of land in Konaseema was left fallow.
If the government declares a crop holiday in rabi, farmers of the region will forego two crops subsequently.
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) state secretary K Kumara Swamy, district president DN Rao, KRPS leaders V Satyam, M Maha Lakshmi Prabhakar and Y Brahmanandam are leading the agitation.
Samithi president Rambala Bose said various political parties and people’s organisations extended their support to the agitation.
